135 Graduate with GED Offered Through Libraries

Literacy LogoIn July 2008, Douglas County Libraries became the first public library in Colorado to offer GED testing. 

One year later, 234 people have taken at least one section of the GED test, and 135 people graduated with a GED certificate after testing at Douglas County Libraries.

A Book Club for English Learners

If you’re learning English as a second language, Douglas County Libraries has the book club for you!

The ESL Book Club is for adults who are intermediate to advanced English learners and it meets on the first Wednesday of every month from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the Philip S. Miller Library.

Join other English learners to read books together, improve reading skills, and work on understanding English. The group will read a new title every 1-2 months.

No registration is required, just stop by.

Share the Love of Reading with Children through Book Start

Book Start Early Literacy Program LogoShare the love of reading with a child! Volunteers go through a two-hour training session which takes place at Philip S. Miller Library, Castle Rock. After this training the volunteer is ready to be placed in a childcare center. The next session takes place from 9:30 AM to Noon, April 21st--the third Wednesday of the month.

Douglas County Libraries and Intermountain Therapy Dogs present R.E.A.D (Reading Education Assistance Dogs )

  • Improves literacy in a unique and fun environment
  • School-age children sign up to read aloud in Dog/Person teams
  • Dog/Person teams are registered and certified through Intermountain Therapy Animals
  • Advance sign-up is required.
